Ayano is one of the members of the Kannagi family, a house with connections to the flame spirits, all of whose members use fire. All except his cousin Kazuma. When he lost to Ayano, his father banished him from the house. Kazuma ran away from home and changed his surname to Yamagi. He made an alliance with the wind spirits and became a very powerful wind user. 4 years later he returns. 4 years ago, Kazuma Kannagi was defeated by Ayano Kannagi in a fight for the "Enraiha", a sword that had been used by the Kannagi family for generations. His defeat and lack of talent in using fire techniques, which was the specialty of the Kannagi family, led to him being banished from the family. Now Kazuma has returned as Kazuma Yamagi, a master of wind techniques.
